Last week, Johnny Depp announced he would be playing Mr Hyde from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Posting the first trailer, set in Halloween 1899 Dark London, the unrecognisable Hollywood star captioned his Instagram post: “When I was a boy, I carried a little, leather book of DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE in my back pocket everywhere I went… To step into the world of Robert Louis Stevenson, to be welcomed into Ridley Scott’s vision… and to explore this character—it’s madness and magic! Hope you folks like it…”
However, it’s important to note that this is not a movie or TV series, but the collaboration on a graphic novel series that launches this Halloween.
Hyde is set to explore the life of Mr Hyde after he triumphed over Dr Jekyll, with the character hiding in London sewers and using his serum to transform other people into more Hydes. As with Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR comic book character, this Mr Hyde shares the likeness of Depp, with the actor providing his input into the story and role. The Pirates of the Caribbean star said: “To build within the world of Robert Louis Stevenson’s masterful characters and to be welcomed into the vision of Ridley Scott… and inexplicably having the opportunity to explore, it’s surprising to me. And hopefully surprising to him. It’s insane and beautiful to receive that trust from Ridley. A master.”
