There was so much time and effort put into chronicling how Odell Beckham Jr. was faring this spring and summer and a plethora of attention given to him making the Giants’ 53-man roster. Through two games, though, Beckham has been a nonfactor.
Could that change Sunday in the rain at MetLife Stadium when the Giants face the Titans?
“I would think Sunday would be great,’’ head coach John Harbaugh said. “I would be all for it for Sunday. That would be the perfect time, in my mind. So, I hope that happens this Sunday.’’
It can only happen if Beckham gets on the field. He played 11 of the 69 snaps on offense in the season-opening victory over the Cowboys.
He played only three of the 58 snaps in the loss to the Rams. That is 14 of the 127 snaps on offense — not enough for anyone, much less a 33-year old who missed the entire 2025 season — to make any sort of impact. His targets for passes thus far? Zero.
Rookie Malachi Fields leads the receiver group with 97 snaps on offense, followed by Darnell Mooney (81) and Malik Nabers (79). Nabers, coming off ACL surgery, was on a snap restriction in Week 1 and he missed a few plays last week when his right shoulder popped out of the socket for a dislocation. He practiced fully this week, and his workload should not be affected.
Nabers, Fields and Mooney are all far ahead of Beckham in the pecking order, leaving few opportunities for him.
“We’re trying to probably slowly package him in some things offensively,’’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said. “So, it’s not that he’s just a backup. There are some times when, whatever it is personnel-wise, that we have it on the game plan. We just didn’t get to it. Or, ‘Hey, you’ve got to be ready. One injury away from being in all the time.’ And he knows that.’’

The Giants knew their edge rushers — Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and, at times, Kayvon Thibodeaux — would receive extra blocking attention with chips from running backs and tight ends. The entire defense has only one sack in two games — Carter last week on Matthew Stafford — and defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson admitted he needs to come up with something different.
“You’ve got to have a better chip game plan, OK, and not just always straight rush,’’ Wilson said. “There’s other ways that we can get to the quarterback. And we have some answers, and hopefully it shows this week.’’
Brian Burns (ankle), CB Deonte Banks (calf) and S Tyler Nubin (calf) are all listed as questionable. Burns has not missed a game with the Giants, starting 36 straight since arriving in 2024.
