Joe Biden’s backing of Israel could inadvertently bolster Donald Trump’s chances in the upcoming election, despite the former President’s apparent vulnerabilities revealed in the Michigan Republican primaries, according to experts.
“Biden’s support among younger voters and Muslim and Arab Americans is waning,”Professor Inderjeet Parmar from City, University of London, said to The Mirror, indicating a challenge in swing states like Michigan.
Parmar emphasized that while the Gaza issue may ease by November, it could still lead to significant voter disengagement, indirectly benefiting Trump.
Michigan, home to the largest Arab American population in the nation, holds substantial political sway.
The surge of ‘uncommitted’ voters only adds to the complexity of the electoral landscape, with concerns over US foreign policy resonating deeply within the electorate.

“Democrats – including the young and Muslims – are going to have to choose between the fear of an Islamophobic and anti-foreigner Trump presidency and anger at the Biden administration’s Israel policy,” Parmar added.
In the recent Michigan primaries, both Biden and Trump secured victories, setting the stage for a highly anticipated rematch between the two contenders.
However, early results from the state unveiled significant political weaknesses for both candidates ahead of the November general election.

Grant Reeher, a political science professor at Syracuse University, noted that while it may not directly benefit a Republican candidate, losing voters over their stance on Gaza could dampen enthusiasm and turnout among key Democratic demographics, potentially favoring fringe candidates.
“The irony is that if the ultimate effect of all this is to put a Republican in the White House, then these protesters will get something even further from their preferences,” Reeher said.
