Jet2 chaos as passengers left 'boarding wrong aircraft' in ground staff blunder

Frequent flyers are perhaps used to luggage being misplaced and sometimes lost altogether. Less common is passengers themselves being caught up in the confusion, heading for entirely the wrong plane.

But this was the case for a passengers who were hoping to fly back from Geneva to the UK on Sunday night, on a Jet2 flight. Instead of being dropped off at their flight home, they were turfed out in front the incorrect aircraft.

One frustrated flyer took to social media site X, formerly twitter, to vent their irritation. They said: “Genuinely we have just been dropped off at the wrong plane! Who could be [sic] scripted it! Been on the wrong train and bus before but never a plane.”

Another X user highlighted it was usually luggage that ended up on the wrong craft rather than passengers. They said: “Makes a change for people to be on the wrong plane, normally it’s the luggage.”

Jet2, however, said that the mistake was due to ground staff getting mixed up – and that the error was quickly put right.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, the third-party ground handling team at Geneva Airport worked on the incorrect aircraft yesterday evening.

“The issue was spotted by our teams, and then rectified as soon as possible. Customers were flown back to the UK from Geneva yesterday evening.”
