Jerry Jones is not pleased with how the Cowboys gave the game away to the Ravens on Sunday in Rio.
The outspoken owner said the team is leaving no stone unturned in examining how Dallas let the game slip from their grasp, with scrutiny on Dak Prescott’s third-and-goal throwaway with 14 seconds left in a tied game despite George Pickens being open at the front right pylon.
“There’s no explanation you’re satisfied with. None,” Jones told 105.3 the FAN on Wednesday. “Let’s be sure that we all understand that. They don’t have one that they’re satisfied with. We made mistakes during that time, there’s no question about it. There’s no explanation. There’s an evaluation of how to not make the same mistakes again, which is what you should be doing. We can’t get that back. No way to get it back. What you can do is use it — if there’s any aspect of it that you want to just not even think happened. Any aspect of it, use it to get better.”
A pass interference call against the Ravens gave the Cowboys first-and-goal at the Baltimore 2-yard line with 23 seconds left as they trailed 31-28.
Prescott missed Pickens on a fade on first down and tight end Luke Schoonmaker was called for a false start that pushed the Cowboys back to the 7-yard line.
Dallas had to use its final timeout after Prescott ran for two yards before the throwaway. A field goal tied the game briefly.
A touchback allowed the Ravens to set up at their own 35-yard line with seven seconds left, and Lamar Jackson hit Zay Flowers for a 27-yard gain, with Baltimore calling a timeout with one second remaining.
Tyler Loop then connected on a 56-yard field goal as time expired.
Schottenheimer said after the game that he “probably overcoached” Prescott by telling him he had to throw to Pickens or throw it away given the amount of time left on the clock.
The Cowboys fell to 1-2 and head to Houston to face a desperate 0-3 Texans team Sunday at 1 p.m.
