Jeremy Clarkson sparks wild speculation over political future with dig at Ed Miliband | Politics | News

Jeremy Clarkson has reignited speculation about a possible political move after appearing to hint in a post on X (formerly Twitter) he might run against Ed Miliband in the Doncaster North constituency. The outspoken broadcaster, farmer, and former Top Gear host has taken a direct swipe at Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero and MP for Doncaster North, Ed Miliband by asking voters in the Doncaster North constituency whether they’d like to see their long-time representative replaced, possibly by someone “from their neck of the woods.”

This isn’t the first time Jeremy Clarkson, who was born and lived in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, until the age of 13, has flirted with the idea of standing for office. Back in September 2013, he tweeted that he might consider standing as an independent candidate in Doncaster North, the same constituency Miliband has represented since 2005.

The post was retweeted over 1,000 times, notably including former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.

Despite being posted at 6:22pm, the tweet has already attracted over 400 comments and 480 retweets, sparking widespread discussion online.

Jeremy Clarkson wrote in the post: “People of Doncaster North. Are you happy with your MP? Would you like it if someone from your neck of the woods kicked him out?”

Clarkson’s post has prompted considerable online discussion, with many questioning whether the 65-year-old presenter is seriously contemplating a move into politics or simply making a provocative remark.

Clarkson’s post is drawing many reactions on X. One user, Piers Baker, commented: “Do it. I will come up and campaign for you and so will hundreds of others.”

Another person wrote: “Please stand, Jeremy. Free Hawkstone beer for every vote?”

Someone else said: “Clarkson v Miliband – no contest whatsoever. Jeremy would win hands down – he understands the real issues.”

Some took a more tongue-in-cheek approach with one user writing: “Is this a Top Gear special? Because I’m in.”

Someone else added: “Always touching when a man with a farm shop in the Cotswolds worries about Doncaster North. Real salt-of-the-earth stuff.”
