An iconic James Bond star is worlds away from his days as agent 007 for his latest movie role.
Shaping up to be one of the best sports films of next year, a trailer for Giant has just been released this week.
Executive produced by Rocky legend Sylvester Stallone and written and directed by Rowan Athale of Gangs of London fame, the trailer promises jaw-dropping fights and nail-biting drama.
County Louth-born star Pierce Brosnan steps into the role of Brendan Ingle, the legendary Irish boxer who coached British-Yemeni champion Prince Naseem “Naz” Hamed (played by Amir El-Masry) to success.
An official synopsis for the film reads: “Charting his inspiring rags-to-riches underdog tale from his humble beginnings in Sheffield to becoming champion of the world and a global sporting icon in the 1990s, the film explores the unlikely and tender relationship between Naz and his Irish boxing trainer Brendan Ingle; and the instrumental role that Ingle played on his road to success.
“With exhilarating and visceral scenes in the ring, coupled with deeply moving and intimate moments behind the curtain, GIANT is an inspiring biopic of one of the greatest showmen the sporting world has even seen – the untold true story of the boy behind The Prince.”
Brosnan’s performance seems full of heart in the newly released trailer as he encourages Naseem to face down adversity and prove his naysayers wrong.
In sharp contrast to his usual look – and worlds away from his clean-cut style as Bond – the Irish actor is sporting long, white hair and a bald patch, complete with a pair of glasses.
Meanwhile, El-Masry of The Night Manager and SAS: Rogue Heroes fame is poised to become a household name after landing one of his first major movie roles.
In eager anticipation of what could be one of the biggest sports films of the year, movie buffs took to the comments section to share their reactions to the trailer.
One boxing enthusiast replied: “I love boxing movies. Especially one based on one of my fav boxers ever!!”
Someone else agreed: “Prince truly deserves to have a biopic of him.”
Another said: “I’m so proud and excited can’t wait to watch this masterpiece.”
“About time they made a movie about him,” commented another. “He is the wildest boxer of all time.”
And a final user added: “Anyone who grew up with Prince Naseem, knows he was one of the most exciting fighters the sport has ever seen.”
With Sly Stallone’s endorsement, this is one boxing movie that is guaranteed to pack a punch.
Giant will be released in UK cinemas on 9th January, 2026.
