British tennis star Jack Draper will compete at the Six Kings Slam with five other heavy hitters in Saudi Arabia later this year. It may only be an exhibition tournament but it comes with the biggest prize money pot of any tennis event on the planet, with the winner taking home almost double the amount they would for winning a Grand Slam.
Last year’s winner, Jannik Sinner, took home a whopping £4.5million for clinching the first and, so far, only edition of the tournament. And each of the six participants were guaranteed a minimum of £1.12m just for turning up.
Draper, 23, already boasts over £6m in career earnings but he has the chance to send that total soaring when he heads to the Middle East in autumn. The Six Kings Slam is scheduled to take place between October 15-18, and Draper will be joined there by five other huge names.
World No.1 Sinner, who has won two of the three Grand Slams on offer so far this year, will aim to defend his title. And the man he beat 6-7 6-3 6-3 in last year’s final, Carlos Alcaraz, will also be in attendance.
Novak Djokovic has been called up despite being less active on the ATP Tour than the other players on the six-man list. And Draper is one of three debutants, with Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz also poised to fight it out for the Saudi megabucks.
Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev, who have slipped down to ninth and 14th respectively in the world rankings, have missed the cut after appearing at last year’s event. Rafael Nadal was also there but he has since retired.
