Jack Draper out for the season as injured Brit to miss £10m event | Tennis | Sport

Jack Draper is out for the rest of the season with an arm injury, which forced him to withdraw from the US Open. The British No.1 revealed before the final Grand Slam season that he played through the pain barrier at Wimbledon and then went a month without hitting a serve.

Draper, 23, won one match in the singles in New York but pulled out before the second round due to “bone bruising” in his left humerus. The world No.7 does not require surgery but has decided to shut down his season to give the injury time to clear.

Draper started the season by winning three consecutive five-set matches at the Australian Open and lifting his first Masters title at Indian Wells. After reaching his first ATP Tour final on clay at Madrid in April, he achieved a career-high ranking of world No.4 in June.

He followed Rafael Nadal to become only the second left-hander to break into the top five this century before the arm injury contributed to his early exits from Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Draper’s young career has been dogged by physical ailments.

He posted on social media: “Unfortunately, the injury to my arm is something I have to rest and means I’ll be sitting out the rest of 2025. It is very difficult for me to accept as I was building some incredible momentum this year and playing some great stuff.

“However I’ve been through this before..and I always come back stronger as I’m so motivated to fulfil my potential as a player. Huge thanks to everyone who backs me to do well and supports me on my journey. Can’t wait to get back out there and give it my all. See you soon!”
