This was after J.J. McCarthy suffered a torn meniscus in his first preseason game that would cost him his rookie season:

That young franchise quarterback is now in John Harbaugh’s building.
The Giants desperately needed a quarterback to back up Jameis Winston, in the short term at the very least.
