A man who has visited every country in the world has revealed which was the worst location he’s ever travelled to. Drew Binsky has been documenting his travels on YouTube, where he has almost six million subscribers.
In one of his videos, ‘Top five places where I felt the most unsafe as a traveller’, Drew revealed where he would never return to. Topping his list was Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. Drew said the the city was “miserable” with “no rules, no laws” and home to Al-Shabab, an “offshoot of al-Qaeda”, making it a “very scary” place to visit. The YouTuber said: “Every time you leave your hotel, you have to have a convoy in the front and back with four bulletproof vest military guys sitting on the beds of each truck with huge AK-47s in their hand, scouting out the area before you go.”
The Foreign Office advises against all travel to most of Somalia, with the northwest region being advised against for “all but essential travel”
The Government department says those travelling there from the UK “should have a personal emergency plan that does not rely on the UK government”.
There is a “very likely” chance of terrorist attacks, with Al Shabab carrying out “frequent attacks” in Mogadishu. There is also a “high threat” of kidnapping and a “dangerous level” of criminal activity including murders, armed robbery, and kidnapping.
Completing Drew’s list are Conakry in Guinea, Kandahar in Afghanistan, Port au Prince in Haiti, and Tripoli in Libya. He called Conakry his “least favourite place in West Africa”, saying it was a “complete mess” that’s “very hostile”.
The YouTuber said you can “feel the tension in the air” in Kandahar, adding that despite the “cool and traditional markets”, there is a “layer of intensity”, making it feel like you’re always looking over your shoulder.
He called Port-au-Prince “total chaos”, saying “thugs control the area” and he had to pay them off. In Tripoli, Drew was “falling asleep to the sound of bombs” which left his bed shaking.
