For a slice of beautiful country life there is one Italian city you need to see. Nestled in the shadow of the incredible Dolomite Mountain range, Trento is so picturesque that it feels like a watercolour painting.
Every trip to Trento should start with exploring the Piazza Duomo, which takes around ten minutes from the train station on foot. This is the perfect spot for pictures as the magnificent Duomo (Cathedral) is framed by the towering mountains in the background. On its left hand side, with castellated walls and the high Torre Civica, lies Palazzo Pretorio, home of the Diocesan Museum of Trento.
If you want more castles, then Buonconsiglio Castle should be your next stop.
Originally a mid 13th century fortress which became the home of Trento’s lord-bishops, today Buonconsiglio Castle is a museum and one of the most fascinating attractions in the city. The castle houses a rich art collection and historical artefacts that unravel the story of Trento and the surrounding area – perfect for learning the history of the city.
After a morning of exploring the history of Trento, it’ll likely be time for a beverage and no trip to the city would be complete without a glass of Trentodoc – the region’s famous sparkling wine.
You could even enjoy a tasting session at Palazzo Roccabruna. The palace is home to the Provincial Enoteca of Trentino where you can admire a dazzling collection of over 600 wine labels while you sample traditional foods paired with local wines.
If you’re traveling with kids, or younger people you may not be able to waste the hours drinking bubbly – but you could definitely spend time at the famous Muse inTrento.
This cool modern science museum is full of interactive exhibits and is sure to keep kids and adults alike entertained.
