Instantly speed up your Wi-Fi by placing 1 kitchen item behind your router

A trick to boost your Wi-Fi signal was revealed on social media, and everything you need for it to work is already in your kitchen. While many homes around the UK have fast broadband, it doesn’t stop the majority of Brits from experiencing the odd day when, for some reason, things just refuse to load.

However, many of us know that when the Wi-Fi is slow or completely down in the house, it can cause a long list of problems, and with the rise of remote working, having a strong Wi-Fi signal is crucial. Now, thanks to a post by @sixft7latina on X, this simple thing will help boost your signal.

It reads: “Put an Aluminium Foil behind your Wi-fFi Router and Thank Me Later!!!”

Many users rushed to the responses section to question how the foil can help speed up the signal, while others explained exactly that.

One user wrote: “Actually a legit Wi-Fi hack! The aluminium foil behind the router works as a parabolic reflector, bouncing radio waves forward and concentrating the signal where you need it most.

“Here’s why it helps: boosts signal strength in a specific direction (e.g., toward your room or office). Reduces signal waste going into unused spaces (like walls or corners). Can help with fewer dead zones and better speeds… especially in large or oddly shaped homes.”

They also suggested shaping the foil like a curved dish instead of heaving it flat as it will provide better focus. “Think of it like a satellite dish for your Wi-Fi. Not magic, just physics. Try it out… especially if your router’s stuck in a corner,” they added.

Another user also vouched for the simple trick.

They responded: “This works. Aluminium foil can affect WiFi signals. It acts as a conductor and can block or reflect electromagnetic waves, including the radio frequencies used by WiFi (typically 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).

“If you place aluminium foil between a WiFi router and a device, it may weaken or completely block the signal, depending on the thickness and coverage. This is why some people use foil to redirect WiFi signals by reflecting them.”

Researchers discussed the science behind the simple method a few years ago. In 2017, computer scientists said that placing aluminium foil, particularly if wrapped around cardboard, near the router’s antennae can boost its signal and strengthen cybersecurity.
