'Inspiring' war film released in 2025 quietly added to streaming service in UK

A brand new war film has been added to Amazon Prime Video for UK subscribers, and critics have called it “inspiring”. War movies comprise a massively popular genre that has stood the test of time, from classic World War 2 films to more modern iterations of today’s warfare. And the genre shows no signs of slowing down, with new war movies being released every year to the delight of film fans and critics alike.

One of the recent war movies, released in 2025, has landed on Amazon Prime Video. However, many UK subscribers might have missed it among the slew of new content on the popular streaming service. The film, titled Prisoner of War, is set during World War 2. It follows James Wright, a British SAS officer, who is captured by Japanese forces and held in a prisoner of war camp in the Philippines. After his capture, James and his fellow prisoners are forced to fight to the death for the entertainment of their captors.

The film has received mixed reviews since its release, and currently has a score of 69% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. It stars Scott Adkins, who fans might recognise from the John Wick franchise.

Many of the reviews for the film are positive. One critic said: “An inspiring fight for survival. Scott Adkins is a martial arts legend, and never disappoints.”

Another wrote: “Prisoner of War stands out as one of Adkins’ best due to its emotional sincerity in its formula narrative, powerful fight scenes and effective performances.”

A third commented: “A film that delivers brutality and entertainment in equal measure, Prisoner of War is also a testament to the strength and honour of the men who fought in those conflicts.”

However, not everyone was impressed. One negative review reads: “Prisoner of War has a lot working against it … and no amount of fine fight choreography can hide or make up for those things.”

Several new titles have been added to Amazon Prime Video in the last few days. Stand-outs include The Odd Job (1978), Scooby Doo (2002) and The Time Traveller’s Wife (2009).
