Inside world's 'worst' theme park with fake Disney castle that costs just £1 to enter

A theme park in China which costs around £1 to enter has been dubbed the “world’s worst”.

The massive Shijingshan Amusement Park in Beijing spans over nine miles and is divided into four themed districts – but visitors have left less-than-impressed reviews.

It’s 10 Yuan (£1.11) entrance fee – 10 times cheaper than Disneyland – makes it one of the cheapest theme parks globally  though thrillseekers found its dated rides, abandoned feel and rusted gates more eye-catching.

In a review titled ‘The worst park I have been to,’ one reviewer wrote on TripAdvisor: “I never thought an amusement park (that is open) can be bad, but this actually felt like being in an abandoned amusement park.

“Almost freaky! It felt like two sections to this park, the part we entered first was absolutely abandoned, all rides were closed.”

Images posted online reveal piles of rubble scattered across public areas of the park and a discoloured green tower that seems to be in a state of disrepair.

A knock-off Dumbo elephant is also visible at the foot of an empty waterslide.

The park opened its doors in 1986, making it the oldest in Beijing.

The original cheeky tagline read: ‘Disney is too far to go, please come to Shijingshan!’ Other less-than thrilled visitors noted the park was “not worth your money”.

Another visitor described it as a “bizarre place which has loads of rides closed or overgrown during peak season.”

In spite of these poor reviews, the park maintains a four out of five rating on Tripadvisor.

A handful of positive remarks were also made about the offbeat establishment, including one user who commented: “We actually quite enjoyed walking around the park because it was so strange. The place is so unloved despite being really busy but there are actually some really good rides.”

One visitor advised future guests not to expect too much, saying: “I’d say it’s okay, just don’t put your hope too high that it’d be something like Disneyland.”
