Inside King Charles and Queen Camilla's romantic break as they jet off to Scottish retreat

King Charles and Queen Camilla have jetted off to their beloved home in Aberdeen, Scotland.

The couple, who celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, are staying at Birkhall after arriving at Aberdeen Airport on Wednesday evening.

Charles and Camilla have spent every anniversary at their beloved home in Scotland since tying the knot on April 9, 2005.

The couple were pictured stepping out of a plan at Aberdeen Airport before being driven to Birkhall – which was previously the home of the late Queen Mother.

A Palace aide confirmed that the King and Queen will be enjoying some time at Birkhall, but said that they would make no further comment as it is a private visit.

It is understood that the monarch used his Birkhall estate to recuperate after his corrective prostate surgery in January, before his cancer was diagnoses.

The beloved Scottish retreat has sentimental ties for the couple, as it was their honeymoon destination and where the couple spent New Year’s Day last year.

The late Queen Elizabeth II loved to spend time at the Balmoral Estate, and would spend each summer there for a much-needed rest from royal duties.

The King had been advised by medical professionals to cut down on his public-facing duties and any large-scale events – with the monarch last seen at the Easter Sunday service in Windsor on March 31.

Birkhall, which is a neighbouring estate to Balmoral, was a place of relaxation for the late Queen Mother – who is said to have shared a very close bond with her eldest grandson.

The King is said to have been very keen to remain in the public eye since his enlarged prostate surgery earlier this year.

It is understood that the King is planning to “ramp up” his schedule in the coming weeks, although a source said last month that it “too early confirm things”.

A source previously told the Mail: “The idea of a monarch cloistered away just wouldn’t wash nowadays and will only create damaging speculation about His Majesty’s health.”

The monarch is said to be “optimistic” about his treatment and is said to be hoping to attend this year’s Royal Ascot.

King Charles is also hoping he can attend some of the garden parties at Buckingham Palace that honour the community and military heroes.
