This is the dramatic moment a Ukrainian missile strikes the heart of a busy Russian city – hours after massive Russian strikes on Ukraine left at least 39 civilians dead.
The footage is captured from the dashboard of car driving a long a main artery in the southern Russian city of Belgorod.
Suddenly, a flash of light gives way to a large plume of smoke and a deafening bang as a Ukrainian missile hits the road ahead.
The car, still playing Russian dance music, begins to reverse as terrified pedestrians run away from the blast – with small pieces of debris hitting the vehicle’s windscreen.
It comes after officials in Moscow accused Ukraine of shelling the city, with regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov claiming two children had been killed and a number of other people injured.
Russia also claims to have shot down 32 Ukrainian drones over the country’s Moscow, Bryansk, Oryol and Kursk regions early on Saturday, the Associated Press reports.
Moscow also claimed man died and four other people were injured when a missile struck a home in the Belgorod region late on Friday evening, and a nine-year-old was killed in the Bryansk region.
Ukraine never acknowledges responsibility for attacks in Russia – however strikes against the country usually follow heavy Russian bombardments of the nation’s cities.
On Friday, Russia launched 122 missiles and dozens of drones against Ukraine, with the country’s president Volodymyr Zelensky claiming 120 “cities and villages” had been affected.
In an update on Saturday, Zelensky said: “I thank all of our State Emergency Service rescuers, municipal employees, police officers, and everyone who is currently helping, supporting people, clearing debris, and restoring normal life on the ground. Russian attack affected a total of 159 people.
“As of now, unfortunately, there are 39 fatalities. My condolences go out to their families and loved ones. Those injured have received all the necessary assistance.”
Russian drone strikes against Ukraine have continued on Saturday, with the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reporting that 10 Shahed drones had been shot down across the Kherson, Khmelnytskyi and Mykolaiv regions.
