British IndyCar driver Jack Harvey made a heavy announcement on Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 33-year-old shared the news in an emotional statement on social media, stating he hopes to be back on the race track in 2027, starting with the season-opening race in St. Petersburg, Fla., in March.

“My entire career has been about fighting for what’s next. The next opportunity. The next chance to prove myself,” Harvey wrote on X. “The next time I could get back in the car and show what I’m capable of. There have been moments when the path forward was obvious, and plenty when it wasn’t. I’ve had to earn opportunities, fight to keep them, and learn how to keep moving when things didn’t go the way I planned. But through all of it, I’ve never stopped believing that there was something worth fighting for. Life has delivered a new fight to my doorstep. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer.”

The former British Formula 3 champion’s ambitions on the track remain the same.

“My goals for 2027 have not changed. I plan to be on the grid in St. Pete and strapping back into a race car this May in preparation for the Indianapolis 500,” he added. “I am receiving excellent care and support from the team around me, my family, friends, DRR, FOX, INDYCAR and many more. I’ve never backed away from a challenge in my life and this circumstance is no different. So… Let’s fight.”

Following his statement, Harvey received an outpouring of support from the motorsport world.

Fellow drivers Conor Daly and Scott McLaughlin both sent their best to Harvey.

Daly commented on the post, writing “We’re with you brother, you got this 💪”

McLaughlin reposted the statement, writing “Love ya brother ❤️💪,” before also posting “#jackstrong.”

The Lincolnshire native also received support from his colleagues at Fox Sports, where Harvey served as a pit reporter in the network’s first season as the IndyCar series rights-holder. Harvey was also an analyst for Indy NXT races.

“My friend. My colleague. IndyCar Driver. We love you. We are behind you ❤️‍🩹,” play-by-play and pit reporter Jamie Little posted.

“In working with him at FOX, I have admired his energy and passion and positive vibe — and have faith that will help him in this fight,” reporter Bob Pockrass wrote.

Throughout his career, Harvey has competed in 93 races on the IndyCar circuit after making his debut in 2017.

Harvey’s best finish was a third-place podium appearance in the 2019 Indy road course race. His best Indianapolis 500 finish was ninth in 2020.
