This innovative stadium will provide an exciting new space for Senegal to host international events.

The Diamniadio Olympic Stadium, also known as the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium which can host association football, rugby and athletics in Diamniadio, Senegal.

It is the home of the Senegal national football team and has a capacity of 50,000.

In 2026, it is set to host the Summer Youth Olympics and is located around 18 kilometres from the capital Dakar.

After building was complete, the stadium first opened in 2022 with a legends football match following a ceremony attended by African and European heads of state and global sporting dignitaries.

Building work took just 18 months to complete and fans were proud to see the new stadium being used, reports Africa News.

Senegal’s biggest sporting venue is the 60,000-capacity Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium built in Dakar in 1985.

The largest stadium in Africa is the FNB stadium, also known as Soccer City in Johannesburg.

It can hold over 94,000 people and was renovated in 2009 for the 2010 World Cup, where Spain won the final.

Soccer City has become an integral part of South African sports culture, it has witnessed countless historical moments.

The renowned stadium is known for its impressive design and architecture. Designed by architects Boogertman and Partners, the stadium features a unique and striking design that reflects the vibrant spirit of African culture.

In contrast, one of the smallest stadiums in Africa is Cairo Military Academy Stadium with a capacity of 28,500.

Located in the city of Cairo Egypt, it was inaugurated in 1989 and renovated in 2005. The stadium is the home ground of Al-Jaish Cairo football club.

Cairo Military Academy Stadium was one of six stadiums to be used in the 2006 African Cup of Nations, held in Egypt.
