Incredible CCTV footage shows the moment hero passengers take control of a bus after the driver collapses.
The footage, filmed on a public vehicle in Colorado Springs in the US, shows two passengers becoming aware that something has happened to the driver of the bus they were on.
One man approaches to see if he is ok before another, realising the danger the pair are in, leaps forward to take control of the steering wheel.
Whilst also making a call to the emergency services, the man who has assumed control of the bus’s steering brings the vehicle to a safe stop.
Despite the pair’s efforts and the arrival of the emergency services, the bus driver was pronounced dead.
Mountain Metropolitan Transit, the company who operate the bus praised the actions of the two men.
MTT spokesperson Elaine Sheridan told USA TODAY: “Mountain Metropolitan Transit sincerely appreciates these passengers for their quick thinking and actions, which may have prevented an even more tragic situation.
“We have publicly urged both passengers to reach out to us, as we would like to offer them passes in gratitude for their assistance that morning.”
The spokesperson said that they had been able to get the name of the hero passenger who had grabbed the steering wheel, but could not get in touch with him directly as he left the scene before first responders arrived.
On the other hand, the passenger who initially noticed that the driver was unwell “left the scene before emergency responders arrived as he needed to get to work”, so authorities have been unable to identify him.
The driver has not yet been identified, with Ms Sheridan saying that the “family had requested privacy during this time.”
