Billions of pounds are being poured into new and ambitious infrastructure projects around the world.

In particular there has been a flurry of investment into the construction of major transport hubs, particularly airports.

China is one country leading the way in transforming its aviation networks, as it looks to boost its economy.

Beijing is steaming ahead with plans to build and open as many as 136 new airports by this year.

Another Asian country determined not to be left behind is India, which hopes to soon complete the construction of a state of the art international airport.

Noida Internaltiona Airport is under construction in the town of Jewar in Uttar Pradesh.

It is set to become the country’s largest one, providing an alternative to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

Costing over US$825 (£654 million), it is slated to become operational by April 17, 2025.

The airport is being developed by Flughafen Zürich AG and built by Tata Projects, one of India’s biggest construction engineering companies.

The airport will cover an area of 1,334 hectares and have four terminals, as well as six runways, when finally completed.

Noida will have the capacity to handle a whopping 70 million passengers per year, which is more than Frankfurt in Germany.

The airport will increase connectivity between major urban centres in India, with domestic flights to cities such as Agra, Mathura, Faridabad and many more.

The construction of the airport is being overseen by the company NIAL, which provided a recent update on the development.

Shailendra Bhatia told HT news: “Crucial infrastructure works such as drinking water lines, sewage treatment plants (STPs), and water treatment plants (WTPs) are about to get completed.

“Land-side and airside developments are also advancing and land-side work, including terminals, access roads, parking facilities, and public transport connections, is 79% complete.

“On the airside, which includes runways, taxiways, and aprons, 89% of the work has been completed.”
