Travel expert and bargain hunter Chelsea Dickenson has shared her extensive list of the top ten cheapest pints you can find in Europe.
But there’s a catch – a good one – all of the locations have direct flights from the UK.
In a new TikTok video, Chelsea marked the end of Dry January by revealing her research into Europe’s cheapest beer.
As the days begin to get longer and the temperature rises slightly, escaping on holiday will offer some reprieve from everyday life.
She said: “To celebrate Dry January finally coming to a close, I have done the searching and found the ten cheapest places to buy a pint in Europe that you can access by direct plane.”
Topping the list is the city of Debrecen in Hungary, the country’s second-largest city after the capital, Budapest, with a pint costing just £1.11.
According to Numbeo, the average price of a three course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant costs on average just £32.52, while a meal for one at an inexpensive restaurant costs £7.11.
Debrecen is 55.5 per cent less expensive than London, in comparison.
In second place by one pence is the Moldovan capital Chisinau, with a pint costing £1.12, while Burgas, Bulgaria, placed third with the average pint costing £1.50.
At the other end of the list, in joint 10th were Sibiu and Iasi in Romania, where pints cost £1.85.
According to Finder, the average price of a pint in London is £6.75, while the average cost of the whole of the UK is £5.17. The average price of a pint globally is £2.74.
Some viewers shared their thoughts in the comments.
Brian said: “Surprised by Seville, suppose I only got the tourist haunts in the middle of town.”
Nicola asked: “Is it wrong to choose a holiday based on the price of beer?”
Chelsea did add a caveat to her post, explaining the result may be different if Ukraine were in the mix.
She explained: “AND I SHOULD SAY – I have not included Ukrainian cities for obvious reasons, but I cannot wait until we can safely travel to these because you bet that Odesa, Kiev and Lviv would feature in this top 10.”
Here is the top 10 in full.
