‘I’m a mechanic – this used car is so good I’ve been driving it for years’

A car mechanic has said a used car he bought for £4,000 is one of the most comfortable there is on the market. Przemek Chamack said that his Audi A6 was both very comfortable and accommodating for someone who was quite tall.

He told the Daily Mail: “I drive a second-hand Audi A6 that came out in 2007. This is a reliable motor that offers one of the most comfortable rides – and you can buy a great example for £4,000. I am six foot and six inches tall so struggle with some of new and smaller modern vehicles.”

Przemek’s comments come as more and more people turn to the used car market rather than buy a new car because of the price of modern vehicles.

As a result, experts are coming forward with tips on how people can avoid being scammed and get the most car for their money. One used car controller, Jeff Wong from Porsche Centre Bristol, told the Express there was one red flag potential buyers should look out for.

He said that if a car is priced way below what it is valued at then buyers should exhibit caution before purchasing and what buyers should do.

Jeff explained: “There’s got to be a reason for that in terms of being so cheap. Which is why in the world we live in today you can do so much homework on these cars, with the Porsche forums everywhere people are talking about new and used cars all the time.

“I’m pretty sure when one person is interested in a car, they will tap it in pit it in a forum and someone will say ‘that was my car, I had it years ago, don’t buy it’. You can find a lot of history nowadays with forums.

“But AA inspections and things, RAC inspections can quite easily do that and check it out for you as well. There’s no need in today’s world to buy a dodgy car somewhere.”

Jeff and Przemek’s remarks on the matter following data from the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) published in May this year that used car sales had reached two million for the first time since 2019.

In a statement, the chief executive of the SMMT Mike Hawes said: “The used car market has enjoyed its strongest start to a year since before the pandemic, with supply fuelled by a recovering new car market.

“Critically, more second-hand buyers are opting for electric vehicles, with greater choice and affordability enabling more people and businesses to switch.

“Sustaining and expanding this growth, however, depends on a healthy supply of EVs from the new car market – which in turn requires fiscal incentives alongside a nationally accessible and affordable charge point network so that everyone, whatever their budget or driving needs, can benefit from zero emission motoring.”
