‘I’m a mechanic – making a petrol pump mistake waste money and cause serious issues'

Whilst some drivers like to completely brim their vehicle’s tank with fuel to maximise the number of miles they can travel before they need to fill up again, the mechanic warned doing so can be damaging.

To prevent overfilling, fuel pumps will shut off once a certain level within the tank has been reached, causing it to click.

Whilst motorists can continue filling the tank, doing so could cause a fuel spillage or, in some cases, issues with the fuel injectors which could lead to a drop in power.

With over 1.2million views and nearly 29,000 likes, the video gained a lot of attention from motorists, who thanked the mechanic for the tip.

One viewer commented: “Why do people go past the click? There is a click for a reason because it’s a sensor that senses when the tank is full.”

Another joked: “He’s clearly not purchasing fuel in Britain; we can’t afford to get to the clicks.”
