'I'm a doctor – take this 8p a day supplement to improve your brain function'

A doctor has revealed a potent dietary supplement for a healthy brain. Dr Reza T, Cosmetic Surgeon and Biochemist, took to his TikTok to outline five reasons why you should be taking ginseng.

Packed with antioxidants, ginseng is the root of plants that grow in Korea, China, and Siberia.

Popular in the cuisines and medicines of these places, the root is famed for its effects on energy, stress, blood sugar and cholesterol levels, to name a few.

According to Dr Reza T, a supplement form of this potent herb could also be good for your brain function.

Speaking in the video, the doctor said: “It actually improves your mood and actually improves your memory.

“So for those out there with memory loss, you might want to think about supplementation.”

However, research on ginseng is mixed. One study, published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, showed that 200 mg of ginseng a day significantly improved working memory, but a different study reported that 400 mg of the root a day only improved attention but not memory.

According to Cognitive Vitality, more studies are currently needed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ginseng supplementation in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias despite the positive findings.

However, ginseng offers benefits beyond the brain. Dr Reza T explained that it is a “potent” anti-inflammatory. “It soaks up free radicals and it is actually anti-ageing,” he said.

Ginseng can also boost your immune system. “In some studies, they’ve even found that it fights cancer, which is really cool,” the doctor added.

If you’re looking for an energy boost, the small pill could also give you a little bit more pep. Dr Reza T said: “Instead of taking caffeine or something else in the afternoon, maybe take some ginseng.”

Lastly, the doctor explained that the supplement pill can even improve your performance in the bedroom.“For men, who are having trouble performing, ginseng is one of those things that’s been tried for thousands of years that’s been proven to benefit,” he added.

What’s more, multiple research papers have concluded that ginseng is generally safe when taken alone. However, high doses of ginseng or ginseng paired with caffeine or other products may lead to insomnia, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, headaches, nervousness, and gastrointestinal issues, Cognitive Vitality warns.

Furthermore, the supplement interacts with many medications, including warfarin, aspirin, medications for depression, immunosuppressants, alcohol, and others, so it’s best to consult your doctor before adding this pill to your daily routine.

You can purchase 120 Tablets of ginseng for £9.99, which works out at eight pence per pill.
