'I'm 52 but look 10 years younger – here's the skincare routine everyone should follow'

The skin is the largest organ in the body. It has a number of vital functions including serving as a protective barrier against injury and toxic substances as well as helping to regulate temperature. Therefore, it has been designed to be durable.

But with age it becomes less so, and can start to sag and wrinkle. While we can’t prevent this completely there are steps we can all take to help keep our skin looking healthy and even younger for longer.

According to one expert, a specific skincare routine could have this desired effect. Beauty influencer Lila, known for her account Beauty Over 50, shared her 10-step system with her followers.

The 52-year-old, who looks younger than her age, took to social media platform TikTok to explain the 10-step Korean skincare method.

These steps are:

  • Cleaning
  • Cleanse
  • Acids
  • Toner
  • Essence
  • Treatments
  • Eyes
  • Mask
  • Moisturiser
  • SPF.

To start with she mixed powder cleanser with a little bit of water and lathered it up in her hands.

She applied this to her face to clean it. Lila then cleansed again for step two.

Step three is acids. “I’m gonna go in with this peach anua serum,” she said,

“Peach has a lot of vitamin C, which is considered an acid. So I’m going to apply that to my dry skin.

“When I say an acid, it can be a vitamin C, lactic, glycolic, azelaic, any type of acids you can use on your face. Let that, um, absorb into your skin.”

Lila then applied toner. She explained: “Now, toners will help balance our pH in our skin, and it introduces our skin to hydration.

“Now, if you are using an acid type toner, you also want to get a toner that balances and hydrates your skin.”

Lila next used an essence, which is a misting spray used to provide moisture.

“Let that absorb completely into your skin,” she said.

For step six she carried out a treatment. Lila said: “So I’ve just been on vacation. I had a lot of sun, a lot of wind, a lot of pollution.
“I’m a little red around the nose. So I’m going to probably go in with something that’s more healing to my skin for my treatment.

“So I’ve decided I’m gonna go in with a Cica, and then I’m going to go in with a peptide, because I love to plump my skin up. And, yes, you can layer as many treatments as you want. You just need to know if they work together.”

Step seven is to take care of your eyes. Lila dabbed the Caudalie Premier Cru cream under her eyes for this.

The next step is to put a sheet mask on for 10 minutes.

Lila clarified that not every step needs to be done everyday if you don’t have the time.

She said: “I think people get confused because they think that they have to do each step every single day. And here it just doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t really work for us.

“So usually step three and eight, which is the acid and the mask, I might skip on certain days.”

After 10 minutes she removed the mask and applied a moisturiser. To finish she put on an SPF cream to protect her skin from the sun.

Lila added: “Never forget your SPF.”
