Idris Elba’s wife Sabrina shared one regret she still has, six years after attending Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding.
Sabrina, 35, met the Luther star in 2017, finding herself at the biggest wedding of the year just 12 months later. Around 750 million across the globe watched as Harry and Meghan tied the knot in St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
Idris, 52, was invited to the wedding by Harry after the pair had met “a couple of times, through his dad”. It even led Harry to asking Idris to DJ the wedding reception.
Speaking on the Walking the Dog podcast with Emily Dean, Sabrina revealed she never expected to be at the wedding. But did reveal she had one regret from the day.
She said: “Oh my god, I did not think I would be at that wedding. I kept telling myself it wouldn’t be that big of a deal and then I had like 100 text messages saying, ‘oh my god, we can see you on the telly’.
“Everybody watched that, you can kind of remember where you were when that happened and I was like, ‘what am I doing here?’ But I had the best time, they’re such good people.”
Sabrina wore a Gucci coat dress to the Sussexes’ big day. And while she was excited to be working with a big brand, she does think she would have acted differently if it were now.
She added: “It was actually one of the first times that a big brand was dressing me, and Gucci was dressing, and I was so excited to take whatever. I was like, ‘oh my god thank you’ and I was genuinely excited.
“Looking back, I maybe would have worn something different. It was a little loud, maybe.”
Emily described Sabrina’s look as that of a “fashion goddess”. She added: “I think what you did was bring a modernity to it, and you were a disruptor and challenging the perceived narrative.
“You’re saying, ‘no, it’s a wedding, these are my friends, and I’m going to wear what I want to express myself.”
Idris will be appearing on Saturday Kitchen Live from 9.15am on BBC One alongside chefs Matt Tebbutt, Marcus Wareing, and Alexina Anatole, while Helen McGinn will be picking drinks.
Speaking about his own time at the wedding, Idris previously said: “So Harry and I, we’ve hung out a couple of times, through his dad. His dad’s charity, the Prince’s Trust, helped me out as a young actor. So I do a lot work with them, Harry and William… And Harry came to a couple of parties that I deejayed.
“And he was like, ‘Hey man, what are you doing on the date?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, nothing.’ He goes, ‘Hmm, would you DJ at my wedding?’”
