'Iconic and timeless' dystopian film with 88% on Rotten Tomatoes is on Amazon Prime

This 1983 classic has been branded as “iconic” by fans and it is streaming on Amazon Prime. Born in Flames is an American utopian/dystopian docufiction drama film directed, produced and co-written by radical intersectional feminist Lizzie Borden.

The synopsis of the film reads: “Set ten years after the most peaceful revolution in United States history, it presents a dystopia in which the issues of many groups – minorities, liberals, gay rights organizations, feminists – are dealt with by the government.”

The film’s cast is boasted by Honey, Adele Bertei, and Jean Satterfield.

Born in Flames makes it onto the BFI’s Greatest Films of All Time list and has been hailed by fans.

Rotten Tomatoes critics rate the film at a high 88%.

One fan billed the film as “iconic” and another wrote in their review: “It is timeless, yet carries the rawness of movies made in the 70’s. I highly recommend this film.”

An IMDb user wrote in their review: “Even almost 20 years after its release, “Born In Flames” retains its sense of urgency and immediacy.

“This is due both to the energy of the performances, soundtrack and direction and to the fact that most of the women’s demands in the film – including equality in the workplace, safety from harrasment and sexual crimes, and equal representation in government – still have not been met.”

“Lizzie Borden’s restored and rereleased radical feminist movie is just as scrappy and smart as it was in 1983,” said Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian.

He added: “One factor that may have kept this film long under the radar is its quite extraordinary climax in which a revolutionary bomb blows up one of New York’s World Trade Center towers – a low-budget but remarkably potent and dreamlike special effect just before the closing credits.”

Born in Flames is available to stream on Amazon Prime now.
