King Charles has made sure to show his appreciation for the people who keep the royal households running, and a former royal butler has explained how a “sweet” gesture once led to a “disaster”.
Speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, ex-butler Grant Harrold, who worked for King Charles and Queen Camilla between 2004 and 2011, revealed that even though they’re kept busy over Easter, the King’s staff get treated to plenty of Easter chocolate. Harrold said working over Easter “was great,” because he “was given Easter eggs by The King and Queen.” However, he also said it it came with one downside, adding, “it was a disaster for my weight.”
Mr Harrold also shared: “I remember one year the King actually wrote me a little letter and he thanked me for spending my Easter with them, it was my first Easter with them, and he put Cadbury’s mini eggs in the envelopes, so when I opened the envelope, all those sweets fell out.”
He also recounted that he once gifted King Charles a “wind-up chicken” which he wound-up and it ran between himself and the Queen, across the table.
Their Majesties are confirmed to be attending Easter Sunday church service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. It is currently unclear if the Prince and Princess of Wales are attending with their children, but the palace stated that the King and Queen will be “accompanied by members of the Royal Family.”
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are currently enjoying a month off from Lambrook School in Berkshire. There is a chance the Wales family will be in Windsor for the traditional Easter service, an event they missed last year amid Princess Kate’s cancer treatment.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, however, will no doubt be busy planning this year’s Easter fun with their two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet at their home in Montecito, California.
The Sussexes have previously shared a look at the sweet Peter Rabbit-themed egg hunt they created for Archie in their garden in 2021, when Meghan was pregnant with Lilibet.
Meghan Markle has recently shared her Easter shopping edit with fans on Instagram choosing specially selected items including a child-sized gardening set, carrot-shaped sweets, and a croissant-shaped toy with a smiling face on it.
