A man has ventured to what’s been branded the “worst seaside town in the UK”, and was shocked to find it nestled in Wales. Zac Jones, hailing from Liverpool, took a trip to the coastal spot after hearing about its notorious reputation as one of the country’s least appealing seaside destinations.
Zac documented his journey on TikTok, eager to determine whether the negative label was indeed “harsh”, and he soon made some interesting observations. A previous Telegraph article had slated the town as a poor choice for beach relaxation, prompting Zac to investigate the claim himself.
Upon arrival, Zac’s initial impressions were surprisingly positive as he surveyed the local amenities. He delved deeper into Rhyl’s offerings, sharing his findings with his followers about Rhyl.
In his TikTok tour of Rhyl, Zac remarked: “I mean, there’s not an awful lot of people here. Let’s see some of the prices in The Piazza. The big brunch will be £6.95. Cod, chips, peas, bread and butter – £8.80, and we have a Wetherspoon.
“Honestly, I think it’s quite nice here to be honest, maybe it’s just because the sun’s out. I mean at least there’s a nice building.”
When Zac quizzed a local about Rhyl’s highlights, the response was simple: “The weather.” It seems that, despite its reputation, Rhyl’s climate is something visitors can appreciate.
Zac’s visit to Rhyl took an unfortunate turn when he lamented: “I take it back – everything nice I said about this place.” His change of heart came after stepping in dog muck, which marred his experience somewhat.
Nevertheless, Zac gave his verdict on the town: “Well I think Rhyl, for me, gets an ‘it’s ok’. The best thing about Rhyl, in my opinion, is the beach and the coast. It’s beautiful.”
The video has since attracted over 1,000 views, sparking a flurry of comments from viewers sharing their opinions on Rhyl.
One viewer joked: “Best thing about Rhyl is the way out.” While another expressed nostalgia: “Such a shame. Used to be so good.”
A third shared personal memories, adding: “Spent many holidays there as a child, as it was all we could afford. It’s not always about the location – it’s about making memories as best you can.”
Others defended the town, with one saying: “That’s harsh. Although the town centre isn’t up to much, there is plenty going on further down the prom at Kite Surf Cafe and the other end – The Bike Hub and Harbour Hwb.
“Marine Lake is brilliant for crabbing and walks, runs and sunsets. The people of Rhyl are some of the kindest most down to earth people.”
Another person reminisced: “I haven’t been there since I was a kid. Is it the worst place in the UK? It looks nicer than Blackpool by a long shot, apart from the dog muck. That’s unfortunate.”
