It’s hard to imagine my daily working life without my trusty portable Roberts radio and speaker by my side. I’ve owned the cute gadget for nearly a month after snapping it up on sale in an early Amazon Black Friday deal and I’ve used it every day since it arrived.
The Roberts PETITE2 FM/DAB/DAB+ Portable Radio comes in several colours, with each varying in price from £94.98 to £99. I opted for the gorgeous Dusty Pink option which complements my home office well.
As a homeworker, life can be pretty quiet and lonely while I’m typing away at my desk. I find television too distracting to have on in the background, and although I can play my favourite radio stations and music on my laptop, the sound quality isn’t great. Plus, it can be a hassle trying to find the tab among the dozens of others I have open.
When I spotted the Roberts PETITE2 FM/DAB/DAB+ Portable Radio on sale at Amazon, I was intrigued. The dinky size meant it would fit neatly in my home office without taking up too much valuable space, and the fact it’s also a Bluetooth speaker meant I could play music from my phone too.
The idea of having a radio and speaker that I could carry with me around the house was also appealing, as I like to listen to my favourite stations and music while working, cooking, eating and relaxing. The gadget is so petite that it literally fits in the palm of my hand, allowing me to easily carry it from room to room.
The lightweight radio is really easy to set up and use, with there being large buttons to turn the gadget on/off, set the alarm clock and adjust the volume. There’s also a convenient twizzle nozzle to flick between the stations which are all named, making it quick and easy to find the station you’re looking for.
It has an OLED display that clearly shows the time, the station you’re listening to, how much battery remains and more, and you can adjust the brightness to suit you. You can save up to 20 station presets (10 DAB and 10 FM) making it easy to switch between your favourite shows.
It also has a headphone port and a telescopic antenna for improved radio performance, however most of the time I’ve found the signal has been strong enough, so I’ve rarely used the antenna. The fact the radio has a built-in alarm clock makes it the perfect choice for your bedside table.
One of the standout features is the excellent crisp sound quality and how loud it can be played. Don’t be fooled by the Roberts PETITE2’s small size, as it really does pack a punch. It’s safe to say the loudest volume setting would be enough to entertain a room full of people partying the night away.
I’ve listened to the gadget for a few hours a day since it arrived three weeks ago, and I haven’t had to charge it yet. This shows how incredible the battery life is, and although it’s advertised as having up to 20 hours battery life, I’ve found it has exceeded this.
The only downside is that the radio comes with a USB-C charging wire, but it doesn’t include a plug. I had to buy this separately in order to charge it using a socket, which was disappointing. Considering the cost of the radio, I assumed all items would be included.
As well as being a great gift to yourself, if you know someone who spends a lot of time at home, the Roberts PETITE2 FM/DAB/DAB+ Portable Radio could be the perfect Christmas present for them. I can’t imagine not having the gadget by my side – it’s made working from home a lot less lonely.
