I bought two bananas and stored them in two different ways to see which one would be nicer after a week. I have to be honest, I was quite surprised by the results. People have shared various ways to keep bananas fresher and tastier for longer, with many ways suggested. Some experts have advised households to store their bananas away from other fruits to keep them fresher for longer. Meanwhile, others have even chopped up their bananas and stored them in jars to keep them edible for longer.
I wanted to test out which way was best. However, I wanted to keep it simple. So, I bought two bananas and put one into the fridge and one into the cupboard. I left them for a week to see how they were. I did keep an eye on them throughout the week. After all, I didn’t want a rotten banana sitting in my cupboard or fridge among my other food. But I managed to leave them for a week, and the results were very interesting.
Before my little experiment, I was suspicious that the banana I put in the fridge would look and taste better after the week I left it. However, the opposite happened.
A week passed, and I took the banana out of the fridge and the banana out of the cupboard and put them side by side. I was quite surprised by the appearance of the two.
They both had some brown spots, but not enough to turn me off eating them. However, the banana from the fridge looked far less appetising.
The banana from the fridge looked rather slimy when it was put next to the one that was kept in the cupboard. I really did think that the banana in the fridge would be the more appealing one.
But the banana that I kept in the cupboard was much more yellow, and I was looking forward to eating that one. To be honest, neither of them was the most appealing. After all, I left them for a week.
But of the two, the banana left in the cupboard was tastier. It tasted like the banana in the fridge had lost a bit of its flavour, but the cupboard banana was strong in flavour.
My conclusion? If you plan to leave your banana in the cupboard for a week after you eat it, store it. But make sure you keep an eye on it to prevent it from going rotten and rotting your other fruits and vegetables as well.
But to be honest, I don’t think it is advisable to leave bananas for a week. I usually only buy the amount I know I am going to eat. However, this time, I was curious to see if I could buy some and leave them for a number of days before I wanted to eat them.
Although they were both edible, they weren’t the nicest. But the banana that was stored in the cupboard was much nicer than the one I put in the fridge.
