'I slept with my future father-in-law while on a family cruise holiday'

“My fiancé and I went on a cruise this January with his family, while my sister and mum watched our one-year-old son,” Chloe told Reddit.

“We got engaged last year [and] are getting married in May, so it was a New Year’s and engagement gift from his mum and dad.”

Chloe said the cruise was great, the family were having a great time, that was until the pivotal evening on the third night.

“We were all in the lounge drinking when I started feeling extremely exhausted. I headed to the cabin to relax and get some alone time,” Chloe recalled.

“Soon after, my father-in-law comes in and we begin talking. It started as a normal conversation, however, we were both heavily under the influence and the talk got deep.

“He revealed to me that my fiancé had an affair while I was pregnant with our son. He also spoke to me about his problems with his wife.”

Chloe said that “one thing led to another” and she and her soon-to-be father-in-law, and the grandad to her baby boy, became intimate with each other.

“I’m supposed to be getting married in months,” Chloe realised. “I would feel guilty for what I did but honestly I’m more angry at my fiancé for what he did.”

Reflecting on her pregnancy, she felt as though her fiancé was “extremely distant” during that time.

“When I was pregnant and I did have a feeling something was going on but brushed it off and convinced myself it was my hormones and that I was crazy,” Chloe stewed.

“How do I even bring this up? I don’t want to break up his family or mine,” Chloe asked of the Reddit community, who were ready to share their opinions.

Slash178 said: “Break it off. There’s no unpoisoning this well.” Seabeast5 said: “If his father spilt to you that he cheated on you, he will absolutely spill to his son that he slept with you too, eventually…

“Call it off. Frankly, neither of you are ready for marriage (if your fiancé really did cheat as your father-in-law said; this will save you both and your child years of stress and trauma.”

Intheboxalready said the whole scenario was “gross” and wronglifewrongplanet said that “the influence of alcohol isn’t an excuse”.

The Reddit user added that the father-in-law seems like a “terrible person” for what he did.

And that there is “no way” to save the relationship moving forward and that the engagement should be called off.

Johnboy2978 agreed: “Sounds like it’s time to pull the plug. Sounds like the whole situation is rather f****d to be blunt.”
