I removed years’ worth of shower head limescale with product better than vinegar

Limescale on a shower head is a buildup of mineral deposits, primarily calcium and magnesium, which are present in hard water. These minerals are left behind when water evaporates, which can form a white or black deposit on shower heads and other fixtures. Limescale is a widespread problem, and I’ve tried to tackle the shower head for years, but it doesn’t detach from the wall, which makes it trickier.

After seeing white vinegar work wonders online, I decided to try it out for myself, but it didn’t work at all. In fact, it even damaged the stainless steel despite not leaving it on for very long.

Instead, I decided to turn to one of my holy grail products, Viakal, to see how it would work.

Viakal is specifically designed to remove limescale, soap scum, and watermarks. It’s formulated to be effective in hard water areas and can be used on various areas like taps, showers, and tiles.

I’ve used it for years on my taps and around the shower, but never on the shower head, so I gave it a go.

I simply sprayed the product generously on the shower head, left it for 10 minutes to work and returned to give it a scrub.

I was so surprised to see little flakes of limescale already falling off, and it didn’t need any scrubbing at all.

I simply took the handheld attachment and gave the head a spray of water to remove any product residue, and it worked incredibly.

After removing the residue, I buffed it slightly with a cloth, and a little more limescale came off.

This product worked so well to remove the limescale, considering it was years’ worth of buildup.

I went in a second time to remove even more, and I’ll continue to clean regularly to prevent a bad buildup in the future.

The cleaning spray costs around £2 and can be purchased from various supermarkets, B&M, and The Range.

Other shower head cleaning hacks involve using citric acid as well as a nifty 2p coin trick, which creates a chemical reaction to break down limescale.
