I made three-ingredient brownies without flour or eggs – they're so easy to make

Chocolate brownies come in a variety of forms and are known for having either a cakey or fudgy consistency.

A traditional brownie has a thick, glossy crust and is filled with decadent chocolate chips and other ingredients such as nuts and caramel.

The popular baked confection originated in the United States but has become popular across the world.

I love brownies but they’re often laden with refined sugar, saturated fat and carbohydrates. They can definitely be enjoyed in moderation but if you’re looking for a less sugary, guilt-free snack then this flourless and eggless recipe is one to try.

Instead of using refined sugar, this recipe includes overripe bananas and cocoa powder as well as runny peanut butter.

Chocolate chips or larger chunks of chocolate can be added for extra sweetness and a more prominent chocolate flavour.

It should be noted that these brownies are extremely rich but aren’t very sweet. They taste more like dark chocolate and are slightly bitter.

If you want a sweeter flavour, you could add maple syrup or honey to the mashed bananas.

The recipe can turn dry if your peanut butter isn’t runny enough or if your bananas are on the smaller side. If this happens, add a splash of milk to create a looser batter.

How to make three-ingredient brownies without flour or eggs

Ingredients:

  • Two to three ripe bananas
  • Quarter cup of peanut butter (almond butter can also be used)
  • Four tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • Optional: Handful of chocolate chips

Method:

1. Firstly, preheat the oven to 180C/350F. Then, line a square brownie tin with parchment paper. I didn’t have a small brownie tin so I used a shallow cake tin instead. Either works well.

2. Add your mashed bananas to a large mixing bowl and mash them up using a fork. You can use a blender for this step if you prefer.

3. Next, add your peanut butter and cocoa powder. Mix the ingredients together until they form a batter. If the mix is dry, add a splash of milk. Don’t worry if there are lumps in the batter – this is from the banana.

4. If desired, add your chocolate chips and fold them through.

5. Transfer your brownie batter to the lined pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a skewer comes out of the brownie clean. Allow them to cool in the pan completely before slicing them up.
