I Know What You Did Last Summer is the latest highly-anticipated film to hit cinemas and the slasher is the fourth instalment in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise.

The story takes place 27 years after the Tower Bay murders, when another hook-wielding murderer begins targeting a group of friends one year after they covered up a car accident in which they supposedly killed someone.

Plans for a fourth film in the franchise had been circulating for a while, with discussions starting back in 2014, when Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard signed on to write a standalone reboot.

These plans ultimately fell through, however, following the cancellation of the 2021 TV adaptation, the project was relaunched.

Here is all you need to know about the upcoming film including the release date, returning cast and more.

When is I Know What You Did Last Summer out?

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer film is due to be released in UK and US cinemas on July 18, and can be watched at cinemas like Odeon and Cineworld.

Unfortunately there are no streaming options available yet for the 2025 film.

However, the original film and its sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, are available to buy or rent on platforms like Apple TV, Amazon Video, Rakuten TV, and Sky Store and streaming services like Netflix.

Who is in the cast of I Know What You Did Last Summer?

Two of the original stars will be reprising their roles – Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson and Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James – both survivors of the 1997 Southport massacre.

Joining the cast is Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline as Danica Richards, one of five friends being hunted by the killer.

Making up the rest of the friendship group is Chase Sui Wonders as Ava Brucks, Jonah Hauer-King as Milo Griffin, Tyriq Withers as Teddy Spencer and Sarah Pidgeon as Stevie Ward.

Billy Campbell has been cast as Grant Spencer, Teddy’s father, with Gabbriette Bechtel as Tyler Trevino, a podcaster obsessed with the 1997 Southport massacre.

Other roles include Austin Nichols as Pastor Judah and Joshua Orpin as Danica’s fiancé.

Is there a trailer for I Know What You Did Last Summer?

The official trailer was released back in May and it shows Danica’s fiancé get brutally murdered by the Fisherman killer.

Danica asks her friends if it is “karma” for what they did following the car accident, as she receives a mysterious card with the words “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.

Freddie’s character Ray appears as he warns this sort of violence will not stop, while he and Julie vow to help the young friends put an end to the murder spree.

I Know What You Did Last Summer premieres in cinemas on July 18
