A Brit on the hunt for the perfect Guinness was left floored by the bill when visiting some of Dublin’s most famous drinking establishments. Danny, the face behind the Honest Places YouTube channel, is known for his pub tours across the UK and beyond.

The youtuber bagged £30 return flights to and from Dublin with Ryanair, however, Danny called accommodation in Ireland’s capital “a joke” with the Brit forking out £200 quid a night” for an Airbnb. Ireland is the second most expensive country in Europe, with the beautiful country forking out 105% more for alcohol and tobacco than average prices in other European countries. The cost of living in Dublin is particularly high with a two bedroom apartment easily reaching £2.1k (£2.5k) a month.

On a quest for the perfect Guinness Danny stopped off in one of Dublin’s most famous pub’s – The Confession Box on Marlborough Street.

Upon entering the historical pub Danny remarked: “Look at this, this is beautiful.”

Claiming to be the smallest pub in Dublin and frequented by local Dublin regulars Danny was left in disbelief of the price of the “smooth” stout.

He said: “Oh aye, that is pucker that. That is, oh bloody hell, that is smooth, that might be the winner you know. That was 11 quid by the way, UK pounds.”

His friend responded: “Standard price over here, isn’t it?” And Danny, shocked by the price, retorted: “11 quid? Mate, I spent £6.50 in Manchester.”

Meanwhile punters who want to have a pint or two in Dublin’s busy Temple Bar area will need more than a €10 note with a pint of Guinness costing a whopping €10.45 or £8.79 for a pint.

On the advice of a local he met, he ventured to Cleary’s Pub, enticed by the claim that it served the best pint in town. After taking a sip, he declared: “It is nice, it is very creamy. It is the creamiest one I have had today. It is smooth. It is definitely the best one today.”

He awarded it an impressive nine-and-a-half out of ten, suggesting there was still a smidgen of room for perfection.

The hunt for the best Guinness in the city took the youtube to Dublin’s renowned Guinness Storehouse.

The tourist attraction at St. James’s Gate Brewery has attracted over 20 million people since its opening in 2000.

Following a historical tour of Ireland’s most beloved beer Danny and his mate ascended to the summit where visitors are treated to a pint of Guinness with their entry, and here, Danny found his “spotless” pint.

He said: “The glass is spotless. Spotless. Good service as well. To be fair, actually, I know it sounds like a bit of a gimmick, but I can’t think of much wrong with that.”

However, the ultimate pint experience at the Guinness Storehouse came with a hefty price tag of €40 (£35).

Sharing with his 91,700 followers, he advised: “If you want to come here, because you should come here if you like Guinness, but the best Guinness you can get is at the Storehouse. But you have to pay €40, you can’t just go there for a pint unfortunately.”
