Hunger Games fans are clamouring for more tales from Panem following last month’s release of Sunrise on the Reaping. Although readers are pleading for a sixth book, Suzanne Collins and her publishing team have remained tight-lipped about the possibility of another addition to the saga.
This hasn’t quelled fan theories about potential new narratives and unexpected twists that could be explored in future books. The original trilogy captivated readers with Katniss Everdeen’s journey as a tribute and her rise to victory. The prequels shifted focus, delving into earlier games — one spotlighting Coriolanus Snow as he mentors District 12’s Lucy Gray Baird to victory, and the most recent unveiling Haymitch Abernathy’s path to becoming the 50th Hunger Games victor.
Now, speculation is rife among the fanbase that any upcoming novels might break away from District 12, shining a light on different characters within the rich world of Panem.
Avid readers have taken their predictions to Reddit, with one post sparking debate: “We’re all saying what book we want next, but what do we THINK will be next? Basically not a wishlist but prediction? I know Suzanne hasn’t said anything yet but in case she does have more books planned what do you think will be next?
“Everyone wants a Finnick book next but I have a feeling the next book will be similar to Ballad (as in a prequel not many were expecting). A plutarch book is likely.”
And they aren’t the only fan to suggest that a possible new book may be centred around Plutarch Heavensbee — a character first introduced in Catching Fire, who later played a pivotal role in Sunrise on the Reaping.
Plutarch, masterfully portrayed by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in The Hunger Games movie saga, serves as a covert supporter of the rebellion within the high ranks of Panem’s ruling class.
One fan shared their insight: “Plutarch 100% I already wanted his point of view before Sunrise to see how the rebellion started. Now after knowing that he was in it pretty much from the beginning, it makes so much sense to have his book. A book from a capitol citizen and the rebellion would be perfect.”
Another reader speculated: “I think that if we get more prequels, we’ll continue the pattern of Capitol POVs and District POVs. I think Plutarch makes sense as the next POV character. And honestly, I think Annie’s games might make for the most interesting games to cover – I’ve seen the theory floated (ha) that the arena flooding was another rebel plot.”
They added: “So that could connect well to a Plutarch POV where we get more of a look at the rebel operation behind it. We’d likely also get some insight into Finnick, Mags, and Annie this way.”
