Prince Harry’s chances of reconciling with King Charles seem to be wearing thin after a source close to the duke claimed his calls go “unanswered” whenever he tries to reach out, reports have claimed.
The Duke of Sussex has been estranged from the Royal Family following a series of sensational claims against them after his departure and move to the US with wife Meghan Markle in 2020.
But this year, following the King’s cancer diagnosis back in February and Harry’s subsequent trips back to the UK, speculation was swirling around a possible reunion between the two sides.
However, a friend close to the duke told People magazine that Harry’s efforts do not seem to reach his father’s side as he gets a blunt message – “unavailable right now”.
They said: “He gets ‘unavailable right now’. His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls go unanswered too.”
Meanwhile, another key topic Harry wants to discuss with the King is his security arrangements when he and his family are in the UK as, according to the same outlet, the duke believes his father could have in having his security reinstated, a claim which has been dismissed by a Buckingham Palace source as “wholly inaccurate”.
And now another friend close to Harry said: “Harry is frightened and feels the only person who can do anything about it is his father.”
Another source added: “Harry is determined to protect his own family at all costs.”
The Duke of Susses has been embroiled in a legal battle against the UK Government over his security arrangements while in the country.
Harry contested the Home Office’s February 2020 decision that he should receive a different degree of protection when he returned to the UK after he quit his royal duties.
He lost the case back in February with High Court judge Sir Peter Lane finding that “there has not been any unlawfulness in reaching the decision” to revise his security.
However, the duke is expected to appeal, with a two-day hearing expected to take place next April.
