Hugh Grant has named his favourite movie ever, hailing the war film as “unbelievable”.

In an interview with Letterboxd, Grant named the 2024 war film as one of favourites among three others.

The Zone of Interest was the top choice of Grant, released in 2024, the actor had recently seen it and thought it was “unbelievable”.

The Zone of Interest is Jonathan Glazer’s exploration of the bookof the same name by Martin Amis, it is a unique Nazi drama told from the perpetrator’s viewpoint. The story follows the commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, played by Christian Friedel, and his wife, Hedwig, played by Sandra Hüller, as they aim to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden located next to the concentration camp.

The chilling film features little dialogue and its storytelling is praised for being told mainly through sound and the use of dispassionate mid and wide shots never that never show the viewer beyond the wall that separates the garden from the concentration camp.

The Zone of Interest won two Oscars for Best International Feature and Best Sound.

Letterboxd is a social media for film lovers, it lets people review and rate films they are watching as well as keep tabs on what their friends are watching too.

One its main features is the top four films spotlight, this has become a popular red carpet interview feature from Letterboxd as they find out what films actors and celebrities hold dearest.

This time it was the turn of Grant who gave a pretty interesting selection. When asked about his three other favourites he next named Finding Nemo, which starkly contrasts the German war film.

He described Finding Nemo as “just heartbreaking,” and then went on to add Bleu from Krzysztof Kieślowski’s trilogy Three Colours: Blue.

Grant recalled meeting the director in the 1990s and said: “I revere Kieślowski.

“I am not often lost for words and I was so starstruck I couldn’t think of anything to say.”

He also listed the Sound of Music as one of his favourites.

The Zone of Interest is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
