A huge explosion has ripped through a home in Bradford. At least one person was injured following the terrifying blast on Southfield Lane on Saturday night (September 13).
A witness reporting seeing around 25 fire engines at the scene while pictures show debris scattered across the street. Police officers and paramedics also rushed to the area with the road completely cordoned off. A large bang was heard by residents and it is believed the explosion was caused by a gas leak.
As reported by UKNIP, residents reported a large emergency response following the explosion. They were urged to keep windows and doors closed while people in the wider community were advised to avoid the Southfield Lane area completely.
Local resident Kyan Rane said: “All of Southfield Lane is full of fire and ambulances now, it’s really bad.”
A second added that “at least 25 emergency vehicles” had passed his home as they rushed to the scene of the explosion.
As well as firefighters, police and paramedics, people in hazmat suits were also seen working at the scene. A cordon was put in place as investigation work was launched.
Pictures from the scene show a destroyed building with rubble and debris spread over the street. One person was rushed to hospital by land ambulance.
While West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are yet to confirm, it is believed that the explosion was caused by a gas leak.
It comes after a home in Otterton, Devon, was completely destroyed by a suspected gas explosion last month. Emergency services rushed to the scene but found the property had been destroyed and was well alight.
Five fire crews attended the scene at the detached property at around 11.30am on Monday, August 11. Crews split the incident into two sectors to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading. No one was injured.
