There are many features to consider when labelling an airport as the world’s best, including waiting times, food options, safety and security, the list goes on. Most important, though, is customer satisfaction, and having a look at that, Skytrax World Airport Survey was able to find out which airport deserves the crown. Participants were questioned on a range of things such as the airport website, staff friendliness, entertainment facilities, and baggage delivery times.

As a result of the 575 people who took part in the assessment, according to Skytrax, Singapore Changi airport takes the crown as the world’s best airport. The airport was built for 1.5 billion Singapore Dollars in 1981 (approx. £1.63 billion today)  and had one terminal. Along with the construction of its four terminals, Jewel Changi Airport complex and the billions invested over the decades, the airport’s worth is around £16 billion. Today, it is one of the busiest airports, southeast Asia’s busiest, and one of the busiest in the whole continent.

Despite handling over 67 million passengers a year, the airport is “renowned for its unrivalled passenger experience.” It was also recently named the best airport for food.

SEO for Restaurants looked at data from various airport websites as well as Google Maps on the prices, variety and quality of food, and dining options at airports across the globe and gave each one an overall score.t

Singapore Changi Airport bagged an impressive 87.79 out of 100, credit to the high number of options per number of passengers as well as its reasonable prices.

The airport plans to become even bigger and better, with a new Terminal 5 set to be operational by the mid-2030s. It is expected to handle 50 million passenger movements per year, with the aim of doubling the number of passengers by the 2040s.

While the airport boasts great passenger satisfaction, Changi Airport is also famed for its beauty and many attractions dotted around and between the terminals.

The most recognised is Jewel Changi Airport, a nature-themed entertainment and retail complex surrounded by and linked to one of Changi Airport’s terminals. The stunning landmark features the world’s tallest indoor waterfall and last year welcomed over 80 million visitors.
