How to whiten bed sheets fast without bleach or vinegar

White bedding can often seem dull after a spin in the wash, especially if it’s lumped in with darker laundry items.

Over time, bed sheets can take on a yellowish hue as they come into contact with body oils and sweat. Regular applications of lotions and cosmetics don’t help either, leading to discolouration.

Although white vinegar can help to “brighten” your white bedding, the experts at Nectar Sleep Mattresses have listed another natural cleaner as the number one method.

They claim that lemon is just the number one thing to use as it’s a “natural bleaching agent” because of the “powerful presence of citric acid”.

When used strategically, the pros said: “It can brighten and make your sheets white again.”

Another advantage of using lemon juice is that it leaves a pleasing citrus scent. Now, there are two methods to brighten your sheets with lemon juice.

The first involves taking the juice of one lemon and pouring it into the washing machine with your regular detergent and washing as usual.

Method two relies on you taking half a cup of lemon juice, mixing it with four litres of hot water and soaking your white sheets in the water.

Soak the sheets for at least 30 minutes to an hour, or you can do it overnight.

Afterwards, just pop your sheets into the machine and wash them on a regular cycle.

While method one works for all bed sheets, method two is unsuitable for silk.

While chlorine bleach is a popular solution for many who want to restore the brightness of their bedding, it may not be the best answer.

Chlorine’s interaction with residual body oils on your linens could damage them by leaving behind unwelcome yellow stains.

Those who want to use bleach will first need to wash their sheets in the washing machine as usual before using the bleach during the second wash cycle.
