As the Catholic Church prepares for a new conclave, a timely political thriller exploring the traditions and tensions of a papal election is now available to watch at home.

Conclave (2024), starring Ralph Fiennes and directed by Edward Berger, is based on the bestselling novel by Robert Harris. The film takes viewers inside the walls of the Vatican, where the College of Cardinals gathers in secrecy to choose the next pope after the death of a pontiff.

Fiennes plays Cardinal Lomeli, a senior figure within the Church tasked with managing the delicate and deeply symbolic election. Over the course of several tense days, he begins to uncover secrets among his fellow cardinals – including one revelation that could transform the future of the papacy.

The film unfolds almost entirely within the confines of the Sistine Chapel and surrounding Vatican spaces, offering a focused look at the rituals, politics, and quiet power struggles that occur behind closed doors.

Set against the backdrop of one of the most private and tradition-bound events in global religion, Conclave blends fiction with insight into a process that rarely allows public access – and that the world prepares to witness in the near future.
