Hair around the drain can quickly turn from a mere nuisance to a full-on plumbing disaster.

A clogged bathtub or shower, more often than not, signals that strands of hair have settled into an uninvited nest.

Homeowners knowing the tricks to melt away hair blockages can avoid the dreaded call-out charge from the plumber.

One distressed homeowner sought advice on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, frustrated by her own hair clogging up the shower drain.

Posting her dilemma, Sarah Butterfield asked: “Can anyone advise the best drain cleaner? I have quite thick hair and you know what it’s like when you’re in the shower, just falls out.

“My drain in the shower is more or less clogged with my hair. It’s vile. I’ve tried them twisty plastic things to get bits out but I need something more. Thank you.”

A stream of suggestions poured in and the most common response was to use Buster Bathroom Sink Plughole Unblocker for the cleaning mission.

Endorsing the method, Lauren Miller said: “I find Buster Unblocker poured down the drain pulls all mine and my daughter’s long strands down.”

Daniela Stapleton commented: “Buster Unblocker. I use it all the time when my bathtub blocks up and it works brilliantly.”

Tina Davies exclaimed: “Buster is fabulous! I lose a lot of hair so I use this every month and it works in five minutes.”

Katherine Bell chimed in, saying: “My hair down is so long, and I use Buster Bathroom Drain Unblocker.”

Emma Ireland couldn’t sing the praises of a drain unblocker enough, taking to social media with a photo of the product and claiming: “This is the best stuff I have ever used.”

She detailed her experience: “If it’s bad, pour a whole bottle down overnight then put boiling kettle water in the morning down it and it unblocks straight away. It dissolves all the hair and gunk.”

Emma continued to share her success story: “It’s really good stuff. My shower was completely blocked and water wouldn’t even go down it.

“Left it overnight and poured boiling water down and was like when we first got the shower. It’s perfect for hair blockage.”

Alternatively, households can purchase a drain snake which is guaranteed to remove any hair blockages.
