Weeds shouldn’t pose too much of a threat if you’ve had your patio professionally installed by a reputable landscaper. However, even paving that has been expertly installed isn’t completely immune to these garden pests. It is still possible for dirt and seeds to slip in between the tiny cracks and trigger weed growth.
When this happens, you’ll want to act fast to prevent the situation from getting out of control and ruining your otherwise stunning outdoor space. There are a variety of methods you can try to get rid of weeds and, more importantly, stop them from growing back but there’s one in particular that garden enthusiasts are loving at the minute.
Taking to the Mrs Hinch Gardening Tips Facebook page, Sarah Brown asked for advice on how to keep her patio weeds under control. She wrote: “These weeds spring through on our round patio all the time!! I pull them out constantly but they are back within a week! What is the best way to keep them under control!? Should l use a strong weed killer, if so, do you have any recommendations?”
The majority of gardening lovers in the comments of the post recommended the natural route of using salt with boiling water.
Zoe Louise said: “I pour salt on it whilst the kettle is boiling. Then put the kettle straight over. I put a lot of salt on.”
Ulrika Rubin wrote: “As long as you don’t want anything else to grow there: salt and boiling water.”
Mary Levine said: “Boiling water and salt. It kills the roots. Repeat multiple times.”
Harriet Martin agreed: “I put salt and boiling water on one of mine and it died and never returned. I repeat this every year to be on the safe side.”
Callie Fevre commented: “Great to see all the salt and boiling water suggestions. Works well and doesn’t harm wildlife.”
