Scrubbing the cooker hob ranks among the most challenging household chores, given that it’s particularly susceptible to spills and stubborn stains. What’s more, the intense heat means any residue can become virtually baked on, turning the cleaning process into a truly thankless task.

In pursuit of an effective solution, one cleaning enthusiast turned to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page seeking guidance from fellow members. Sharing a photograph of her grimy cooker hob, Joanne Searle wrote: “Does anyone know what I can use to get the thick fatty greasy deposits off of my hob, please? I can never get it completely clean even when I’m scrubbing with a scourer.”

The vast majority of group members responding in the comments recommended either hot soapy water or a combination of white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, reports the Express.

However, several Mrs Hinch devotees claimed that one particular product could do a “better job” — soda crystals.

Lynne Welsh instructed: “Cover your hob in a paste of soda crystals and water, leave for five minutes and the grease will wipe off without scrubbing.

“I did use bicarbonate of soda and vinegar before but this did a better job and in half the time.”

Hanna Clancey said: “Yeah I love this stuff! It works better than anything else I’ve tried.”

Nicky Jackson wrote: “Leave soda crystals mixed with some water to soften the grease for a few minutes and the grease comes off so easily.”

Elsewhere on a separate Mrs Hinch fan cleaning page, Nicola Davis described how her cleaning nightmare was transformed into a triumph thanks to Dri-Pak liquid soda crystals. She wrote: “I was absolutely dreading cleaning my hob but thanks to the Dri-Pak liquid soda crystals it was a breeze.”

Despite forgetting to capture a ‘before’ photograph, she commented: “Unfortunately I didn’t think to take a pic before I started but it was in an awful state (don’t judge me! ).

“I just poured some of the stuff on and left it for five minutes followed by a wipe down with a microfibre cloth. It worked like magic. I didn’t have to scrub at all.”
