The kitchen is without a doubt one of the hardest rooms in the home to keep clean. No matter how often you try to tackle it, there always seems to be a mess somewhere – with the oven being one of the biggest culprits.
Because this is where much of our food is cooked, it can become covered in tough grease stains, dirt and grime, especially on the glass. Leaving it to build up will only make matters worse, so cleaning it frequently is a must. And turns out you can do this with a simple 8p item you’ve probably already got at home.
The pros at Ideal Home have set out to help people with their oven cleaning woes by seeking the help of cleaning experts, who know a thing or two about keeping this appliance clean.
And apparently, you don’t need any fancy products or equipment for a sparkling clean oven door.
How to clean oven glass
If your oven is particularly dirty, you may want to fill a dish with water and a few spoonfuls of white vinegar, and allow it to sit in the oven on a low heat for around 30 minutes. This will help to dislodge any burnt parts, making it easier to clean.
However, if you’re dealing with some really stubborn stains, then a simple dishwasher tablet could help. These small yet powerful cleaning products are designed to break down grease stains from food, so it makes perfect sense to use them for oven cleaning.
All you need to do is dip one in water and use it to gently scrub away at any burnt-on food marks on the glass. The slightly grainy surface makes it ideal for getting rid of stains.
You might need to dip it in water a couple more times if it dries out, but one tablet should be enough to do your whole door.
Then, just wipe the oven door clean when you’re done, and all the stubborn marks should have disappeared. Even better, this is a hugely affordable trick too, with a pack of 40 dishwasher tablets costing £3.38 from Asda – making each one work out at just 8p.
Another cheap and easy oven cleaning hack involves just one natural product – a lemon. The citric acid in these fruits makes them very effective for blasting away grease stains, and if you pair it with baking soda, it’s made even more powerful.
All you need to do is cut a lemon in half, sprinkle the flesh with baking soda and then scrub it all over the glass in circular motions. The oven grease should lift off pretty easily, but if you’re dealing with a particularly dirty oven, then a few lemons might be necessary.
