Stains are inevitable in many areas around the bathroom, but toilet seats, particularly toilet seats, even those cleaned regularly.

There are many causes of toilet seat stains. For those living in a hard water area, this is often due to limescale, which forms as the minerals from the water evaporate.

Another reason toilet seats become stained is that bleach or other cleaning products can react with the seat material to cause discolouration.

No matter the cause, a cleaning expert behind the Instagram page @thecleangroup has recommended the perfect natural solution – and it uses “just two ingredients”.

The Instagram video was captioned: “Professional cleaner’s secret for stubborn yellow toilet seat stains. No bleach. No scrubbing.”

They added: “Just two natural ingredients! They break down into water and oxygen so they are totally safe to use and flush away.”

So what is it? It’s baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. The expert noted, “Together, they make oxygen. The earth’s most powerful cleaner!”

While hydrogen peroxide is considered a natural cleaning agent, it is essential to “always wear gloves” when handling this product.

For this method, mix the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. Use about three parts of the bicarbonate of soda for one part of the hydrogen peroxide.

The next step is to spread the paste over the stubborn yellow stains and leave it to sit for 30 minutes.

Once the time is up, simply use a damp cloth to wipe the seat down to reveal a “brilliant white toilet seat”.

Taking to the comments section, followers of the cleaning page shared their thoughts on this hack. @jonesydoeshome said: “Yes it’s a great combination for those stubborn stains! It also removes rust stains from window frames.”

@brightandtidymamaofthree said: “What a great tip – will be trying.” @everyday_satisfying_cleaning added: “This works great every time!”

Other users recommended another option that requires the use of just one product – a magic eraser.

@catequinn1 said: “You can always try a magic eraser that also removes yellow stains from a toilet seat without using anything other than water.”

@krimoulorraine added: “Magic erasers work with one wipe.” However, the cleaning pro noted that it may not be effective for “soaked-in” stains.

They replied: “Lots of people have said the same. I’m definitely going to try that. This tip is specifically for seats where the staining has really soaked in. I come across some end-of-tenancy cleans that haven’t been touched in a year.”
