How to remove mould stains from grout fast without bleach

In a video she posted to her Instagram page (@nancy.birtwhistle), she noted that she used to reach for chlorine bleach before realising how harmful it is.

Instead, she recommends creating your own cleaning spray for grout mould, which she calls “Basic Magic”.

The items needed for this natural cleaner recipe are soda crystals, eco-friendly washing up liquid, boiling water, and, if desired, non-citrus organic essential oil for scent.

Nancy’s post read: “Mouldy grouting – sorted for less than 20p! 50g washing soda, 200ml boiling water, 10ml eco washing up liquid and a few drops non-citrus organic essential oil (for perfume – optional).”

Once you have combined all the ingredients in a spray bottle, apply it to the mouldy/stained grout and grab an old toothbrush and start scrubbing the grout.

As soon as Nancy started scrubbing the mouldy bathroom tile grout without much force in her video, the stains started to instantly vanish.

Once the grout has been cleaned, wipe the tiles down to prevent a chalky film from forming when it dries.

The influencer then showed before and after results, and the grout was noticeably cleaner and whiter.

In the comments section, @suechef3 was blown away at how effective this spray worked on her stained kitchen grout. She wrote: “It’s amazing! The previous owner came back to visit, looked at the floor and said he always thought the grout was grey! And the owner before him thought the same thing because they used grey grout to patch the floor when they installed a new vanity.

“So Basic Magic removed decades of dirt from the grout. Everybody who sees my kitchen floor says it looks like I installed a new floor! Thank you, Nancy!”

@littlemiggins72 was also a fan of this solution. They said: “I made some of this on Friday and have been using it all weekend – it really does the trick and smells much better than bleach.”
